On 4th August 2021, MFJCF was invited to conduct an awareness talk on organ donation and transplantation for the medical and nursing students of the Rabindranath Tagore Medical College (RNT) and Hospital in Udaipur. The Scholars Foundation, in collaboration with Rotary Club Vasudha coordinated and organised the event. RNT Hospital Udaipur has recently obtained permission to perform organ retrieval and transplantation.
The speakers for the talk were Dr. Suneet Ranawat (Registrar, RMC) and members of MFJCF, Mr. P C Jain, Mr. Govind Gurbani, Mr. Aryan Mathur, Mrs. Bhavana Jagwani and Dr. Hansika Parwani. Mr. Kundan Singh of Scholars Foundation welcomed all the participants and introduced the MFJCF team. Mr. PC Jain then started the session by introducing MOHAN Foundation and MFJCF. His talk focused on the following:
- Organ donation and its need
- When and how does organ donation take place
- Organs that can be donated during life and after death
Dr. Ranawat then spoke about brain death and the difference between brain death and coma. Mr. Aryan Mathur explained the legal aspects of organ donation and brain death, and myths associated with organ donation. Mr. Govind Gurbani spoke about adding the organ donor clause on driving license.
Mrs. Bhavana Jagwani shared stories about organ donor families and the first organ donation case of Rajasthan. Dr. Hansika then concluded the session after introducing the courses available at MOHAN Foundation’s website related to organ donation and transplantation.
Around 70 people were present in the auditorium and 40 of them signed up as organ donors. Brochures were also given to the participants. Dr. Lakhan Poswal thanked the MFJCF team and assured that Udaipur will soon become the hub for organ donation and transplantation.
