Organ Donation

What is Organ Donation?

Organ Donation is when a person donates his/her organs (heart, liver, Kidneys etc.) for transplantation to the needy person. There are two types of organ donations: Living and Deceased. A living donation is when a living, medically compatible donor decides to donate his/ her organs to a recipient, normally a close relative, in dire need of a transplant. Deceased donation is when organs from a person who has died because of brain death are transplanted into living recipients in need of a particular organ transplant. Donated organs are given to someone who has been suffering because of damaged/deceased organs that need to be replaced. An organ transplant may save a person’s life or significantly improve his/her health and quality of life.
